Story

"Sarki" is an Ottoman song form. "Hüzzam" denotes the mode used in this song. Both the lyrics and music are by Leyla Saz (1850-1936).

This song and the Victory March are discussed in the article "Music in the Ottoman Imperial Harem and the Life of Ottoman Composer Leyla Saz" (Back to Research page)

Lyrics

"Ey sabahi hüsn ü anin afitabi-i enveri"

The morning brings the beauty of the sun.

The nightingale lingers in the elgant garden

How was it possible for me to love you

In this state with no room in my heart?
